New York, May 17 – Tuesday was one of those magnificent spring
days, warm but not hot, brilliant sunshine, a fresh breeze blowing.
So we went over to the park at lunch hour, filled our lungs with
blossom-scented fresh air, and then sauntered over to our favorite
sports bar, where we spent the rest of the hour in the murky darkness,
regretfully contemplating the rest of the workday over beers. At
one point the door flew open, temporarily admitting bright sunlight,
as well as a bunch of laughing people, all talking excitedly. Oy,
we thought, can’t they just leave us alone? And we stared
directly at these interlopers, giving them the evil eye for interrupting
our reverie, and realized, squinting in the gloom, that one of them
was Jay-Z, who happens to own the bar. That smiling
couple was Will Smith and Jada Pinkett
Smith. The other smiling couple was Thalia
and Tommy Mottola. And the one with the biggest
smile was Lisa Price, who was unveiling a new ad
campaign featuring Jada Pinkett Smith as the face of her skin care
line, Carol's
Daughter. And then we went back to the office.
