New York, April 21 – There was a lot going on in New York on Thursday, but the hot party of the night turned out to be Mariah Carey’s release party for The Emancipation of Mimi. Mariah didn’t arrive until 11:30 or so, and P. Diddy, Jay-Z, Christina Milian, Damon Dash, music honcho L.A. Reid, Brett Ratner, Ice T and Victoria Gotti were among those at the new-old Cipriani 23rd Street, where Mimi emerged from Mariah’s cocoon. The party capped weeks of grueling promotional work for the diva, but it seems to have worked. Handlers claim that Emancipation’s first-week sales are the biggest of Mariah’s career.
