New York, April 9-15 – Communications were in the spotlight this week with two big media-related events. On Monday, Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton, Martha Stewart, Tina Brown and Helen Gurley Brown all power-lunched at the Waldorf, when New York Women in Communications gave out their Matrix Awards. Martha was back in the very same ballroom on Wednesday, when her magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings, won a National Magazine Award; the trophy, depending on how you hold it, looks like either an elephant or a lobster. We tried, but couldn’t see that electronic ankle gismo she’s supposed to be wearing during the home-confinement portion of her sentence. At a U.N. press conference naming Bill Clinton special envoy on tsunami relief, the former president coyly said that the current Secretary General is doing a fine job, when asked if he’s interested in the top U.N. position. Kofi Annan laughed out loud when Clinton added that the money is better in what he’s doing now. Another alliance was announced this week: Estee Lauder Companies struck a deal with former Gucci guru Tom Ford to develop his own cosmetics line, and also give Lauder a facelift. Courteney Cox Arquette is the new face of Kinerase Skin Care, and she greeted fans at a Manhattan Sephora store on Tuesday, just three days after she, husband David and godmother Jennifer Aniston attended her daughter Coco’s christening in Birmingham, AL. |
