Los Angeles, January 16 – We told you that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members loved seeing Leonardo DiCaprio’s globes in The Aviator. They got so excited that they voted it best motion picture drama and DiCaprio best actor at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. And the notoriously press-shy actor basked in the limelight at the gala. Were we the only ones who noticed that DiCaprio thanked his parents in his acceptance speech, but didn’t mention supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen? Those HFPA guys really get Hollywood’s attention, and stars turned out in droves. In fact, the limo gridlock was so bad that people got out of their cars and walked down Wilshire Boulevard; Robert Redford walked four blocks to get to the Beverly Hilton. Usher, Virginia Madsen and Leonardo DiCaprio brought their moms, and Mariska Hargitay brought her dad as well as her husband. Johnny Depp came alone, and Claire Danes was there sans Billy Crudup. Crudup's ex, Mary-Louise Parker, was with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows. Jennifer Garner was solo, and her publicist said that Ben Affleck wasn’t there because he’d already gone to the Sundance Film Festival. Affleck and Matt Damon were scheduled to present their Good Will Hunting costar Robin Williams with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, but Pierce Brosnan and Mike Nichols stepped in. Damon was in town the previous day, participating at the tsunami telethon. No word on why he wasn’t at the Globes. |
