Fat Joe donated computers to his grade school alma-mater

New York, December 21-25 – We caught hip-hop bad boys kissing Santa Claus all over town this week, doing drive-bys to donate gifts to those with less bling.

Fat Joe gave twenty computers to P.S. 146 in the Bronx, where they renamed the multimedia room for his late sister, Lisa Cartagena. (Hey P.S. 146ers, we’re counting on lots of hits from you guys and your new computers.) Ludacris has a foundation – the Ludacris Foundation – that’s been delivering toys to hospitals and community centers in many cities, including New York, where he and his elves gave out toys to kids at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx.

On Thursday, we met the G-Unit dudes on the Bowery, but not at one of the neighborhood’s trendy clubs. This time 50 Cent was three hours late for the Josh Evans/Book Bank Foundation’s clothing drive at the historic Bowery Mission, where homeless folks were treated to clothing from hip-hopper favorites Phat Farm, G-Unit, Ecko Unlimited and Hugo Boss.

We got into a philosophical discussion when 50 Cent sat down to autograph posters, and someone whispered to us, “They’ll sell them [autographs] on e-Bay”. “But if these people are homeless, do they have access to computers?” we wondered. “Ah, but do they have walls to hang the posters on?” came the reply.

The same day we rushed over to the Intrepid Museum on the Hudson River, where Ja Rule and the New York Knicks hosted a charity carnival for children.

Just like last year, Jay-Z spent Christmas day at Brooklyn’s Marcy Homes, the public housing project where he grew up, hosting dinner and donating toys. Also like last year, Beyonce Knowles was with him, but unlike last year, they wouldn’t let us in, so we don’t have any photos.

Rock n’ rollers also gave back to their communities – in the suburbs. Jon Bon Jovi, John Mayer and Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas sang for patients at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY.

We noted that none of these charitable entertainers’ wheels were sleighs.
