New
York, September 29 –Deciding to trade in our celebrity
junk food diet for some higher culture, we went strolling
through the rarified art gallery scene. At Tony Shafrazi’s
fine Chelsea establishment, Sean “P. Diddy”
Combs was tossing a party for Citizen Change, his
get-out-the-vote campaign. And what better place to attract
the attention of disenfranchised youthful eligible voters
than where they’re sure to be hanging out – a
private champagne-fueled party at a swank art gallery?
The party
was to unveil a traveling photo exhibition of celebs wearing
“Vote or Die” t-shirts, and Combs was jovial,
running around warmly greeting guests Yoko Ono,
Donald Trump and Melania Knauss,
Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons,
artist Jeff Koons, Pharrell Williams,
Al Sharpton, Diane Von Furstenberg
and the Queer Eye guys. Naomi Campbell
was in a buoyant mood, and actor Owen Wilson
was on the quiet side. Late in the evening, the shock-haired
Don King came in waving two American Flags,
yelling, “Four more years of George Walker Bush!”
He then got into a spontaneous but good-natured political
debate with the Kerry-leaning Combs; both
were laughing as they argued.
Don’t
bother going to the gallery to see the exhibit – the
photos were only on the walls for the party.
