July
6-8 – Celebrity-wise, the Democrats are clearly ahead
in the presidential race.
On Tuesday
in L.A., John Kerry’s daughters Vanessa
and Alexandra hosted a fundraiser where guests
and performers included Lance Bass, Liz
Phair, David Spade and William
H. Macy. Jack Black told us he made
his “Vote Kerry” t-shirt himself, but we’re
hoping he made more than one, since this is the third time
in a month we’ve spotted him wearing it. Now we know
why George Clooney split up with former flame
Krista Allen, who has been working on the
Kerry campaign. On her way into the Henry Fonda theater for
the fundraiser, as she passed a pay phone, we asked Krista
for the phone number. As she read out the number, a member
of the press next to us dialed it from his cell. Krista picked
up the phone, said, “Hello”, and then, realizing
what she’d done, said, “What a dumb blonde I am!”
On Thursday,
Kerry was in New York City for a big fundraiser at Radio City
Music Hall. Whoopi Goldberg, Mary
J. Blige, Dave Matthews, Jon
Bon Jovi, Paul Newman, Jessica
Lange and Sarah Jessica Parker helped
draw ticket holders to the tune of over $7 million. Chevy
Chase was clearly surprised to find that Kerry’s
running mate is actually John Edwards, since
he’d read in the New York Post that it would
be Dick Gephardt.
All this
celebrity support makes it easy to cast your vote in November.
If sophisticated political analysts like Lance Bass and Krista
Allen back Kerry, what more do you need to know?
