New
York, June 24 – New York’s best gay pride event
(in terms of celebrity head count) was on Thursday, when democratic
state senate leader David A. Paterson honored
San Fancisco Mayor Gavin Newsom for his historic
support of same-sex marriage. Laura Linney,
Harvey Fierstein, Alan Cumming,
Queer as Folk’s Hal Sparks,
Hedwig & the Angry Inch genius John Cameron
Mitchell and Avenue Q’s John
Tartaglia were all at City Hall to honor Mayor Newsom
for his acts of civil disobedience in marrying same-sex couples.
Another equal rights stalwart, New Paltz, NY Mayor Jason
West, was also on hand, as was Joyce Randolph(!),
who played Trixie on The Honeymooners television
series, way, way back.
