New
York, June 6-12 – Hitting the talk show circuit to promote
his new record, Marc Anthony pointedly avoided
directly addressing his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
On the Today Show on Tuesday, while he hemmed and
hawed his way through Matt Lauer’s
questions, we, er, focused on the ring on Anthony’s
left hand. And at the CBS Early Show on Wednesday,
Open All Night noticed that the salsa star kept spinning and
touching that same ring as he chatted and kibitzed with the
audience.
Speaking of the
Lopez/Anthony union, at the Fragrance Foundation’s FiFi
Awards, we asked designer Vera Wang how long
she spent working on J. Lo’s top-secret wedding dress.
“I can’t talk about it”, she snapped. Some
speculate that Wang didn’t custom-make the gown - that
Lopez saw the dress and simply had her stylist snag it.
Even
with ready-to-wear, fashion designers are still important,
and, we always figured, are prime targets for terrorists.
So we weren’t the least bit surprised to find dozens
of flashing police cars and elite NYPD forces with machine
guns literally surrounding the New York Public Library during
Monday’s Council of Fashion Designer Awards gala. Turned
out to be a Terrorism Unit deployment; i.e. training session.
We couldn’t help wondering what went through Martha
Stewart’s mind when she left the building and
saw all those police officers. Designer Michael Kors
had a pleasant surprise that night. We asked him if he knew
in advance that half the people there would be wearing his
designs. “I knew about everyone but [American Idol
winner] Fantasia. Actually, my whole staff
knew, but they surprised me with it.”
