26-27 – Has Ethan Hawke left Uma
Thurman and the kids destitute? We caught Uma selling
a date the other night. Actually, she donated the date to
an auction benefiting Room to Grow, a children’s charity.
And it was quite a date she was offering – the high
bidder will be Uma’s guest at the premiere of Kill
Bill: Vol. 2. Arriving for the auction at Christie’s,
Thurman joked with us that the unidentified man with her was
her new boyfriend. Her current guy, hotelier Andre
Balazs arrived later, and gallantly bid up the price
for the prized date, but he let someone else pay $60,000 for
Thurman’s time. If the date turns out to be a bore,
the winner can console himself with the prop samurai sword
used in the Kill Bill movies. Thurman and Princess
Alexandra of Greece co-hosted the evening, and we
tried following both around during the cocktail hour to see
what silent-auction items they were bidding on, but we couldn’t
keep up. (OK, they told us to get lost.)
The following evening,
what we thought was a bear that’d fled the New Jersey
hunts turned out to be a head-to-toe fur-clad Liza
Minnelli. Liza, Denis Leary, Mariel
Hemingway, and a bunch of A&E stars were at the
Mandarin Oriental Hotel for the A&E Network’s twentieth
anniversary party. Elvis Costello and Diana
Krall performed, and Sex and the City’s
Mario Cantone had us in stitches with an
impromptu Anna Nicole Smith impression, hands
on hips, yelling “I’m back! Trim-Spa baby!”
