11 – MAC Cosmetics has lined up Christina Aguilera,
Missy Elliott, Linda Evangelista,
Chloe Sevigny and Boy George
as spokespeople for their new Viva Glam V Lipstick. At a press
conference we got some insight into these stars’ relationships
with makeup: Aquilera: “As you know, I change my look
quite often.” Boy George (repeatedly): “I love
makeup.” Missy Elliott: “Honestly, I’m not
a person who wears much makeup on a daily basis.” 100%
of proceeds from sales of Viva Glam lipsticks are donated
to people living with AIDS, and MAC president John
Demsey said that the stars all donated their time
to pose for the ad campaign. “As long as they give me
free product”, quipped Aguilera.
The biggest star
turned out to be Susan Rodriguez, MAC AIDS
Fund spokesperson and AIDS activist. She started Smart University,
an East Harlem AIDS support group for women, and delivered
a gripping speech detailing her experience as a mother with
HIV.
Late that night,
the whole crew sported fresh makeup at a party at the Ace
Gallery. Also on hand were Salman Rushdie
and Padma Lakshmi, Natasha Lyonne,
Tweet and Queer Eye Jai
Rodriguez. Kimberly Stewart, Rod
Stewart’s daughter, wore a pink leather mini
skirt with metal studs spelling out a slang anatomical term
(starts with a "C") across the front, and her name
across the rear. We overheard a CBS cameraman say, “I
don’t think I can air this on CBS” (home of the
Janet Jackson nipple furor).
