November
22-24 – You know how when drunk at 3 A.M. you find yourself
in the oddest places? How about a JFK marathon? A non-profit
ad hoc citizens group called “We Remember November 22,
1963” held a 24-hour public reading of Jim Bishop’s
book, The Day Kennedy Was Shot, at Cooper Union starting
at 7 A.M. on Saturday, continuing through 8A.M. on Sunday,
November 23. Celebrities reading on Saturday afternoon included
actors Joel Grey and Chris Noth,
playwright John Guare and arts advocate/socialite
Kitty Carlisle Hart. Martha Stewart
never looked up once during her reading bit. Ah, New York.
The city that never sleeps.
We couldn’t
stay for the entire 24 hours, since that evening we had to
get over to the Waldorf for the Michael J. Fox “A Funny
Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s”
benefit. Actor Michael J. Fox, who suffers
from Parkinson’s, seemed in great spirits as he and
wife Tracy Pollan partied with Gary
Shandling, Dennis Miller, actress
Eva Mendez, supermodel Heidi Klum,
Denis Leary, Ellen Barkin and Ron
Perelman, and Jon Bon Jovi and bandmate
Richie Sambora and his wife, Melrose
Place queen Heather Locklear, looking
all 1970s Angie Dickinson.
On Monday, a pretty
crowd way too young to remember JFK came out for the premiere
of the movie Honey. The dance/drama’s stars
Jessica Alba, Joy Bryant
and hip hoppers Missy Elliott and Tweet
all sashayed over to club Sessa to celebrate after the screening.
