March 31 - The
new movie Phone Booth stars Hollywood heartthrob Colin
Farrell as a slick New York publicist held hostage in
a phone booth by a sniper. We don't mind that the thriller
was shot on soundstages rather than in New York City, but
expecting moviegoers to believe there's a working pay phone
in the Big Apple is really taking artistic license too far.
The film's release was delayed when the real-life snipers
terrorized the Washington D.C. area. The congenial Farrell
chain-smoked and cussed while chatting. He and costar Katie
Holmes didn't work together too often - most of the dialogue
was done on the phone. The most difficult thing while shooting
the film was standing in the small space all day. Farrell's
next project is A Home at the End of the World, based
on a book by The Hours author Michael Cunningham.
The same night
Broadway was abuzz with the opening of the comedy Life
x3 starring Helen Hunt and John Turturro.
Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick, Sex and
the City's Kristen Davis and Chris Noth,
and comedian Rosie O'Donnell and her partner Kellie
Carpenter took in the show.
