February 19-20
- Billionaire New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg is disappointed
that a film in which he plays a secret agent busting a hacker
in London wasn't selected for the second annual Tribeca Film
Festival. Even so, Bloomberg joined Robert DeNiro,
Jane Rosenthal and Kevin Spacey to formally
announce the festival, running from May 3 - 11. Taciturn festival
founder DeNiro said, "I have one thing to say: come on down."
Co-founder Rosenthal told us she believes there's room for
two, and that the Tribeca fest will only enhance the 40-year-old
New York Film Festival. We'd like to hear the NYFF's opinion.
Oscar winner Spacey is on the Tribeca Film Institute board,
and some films from his mentoring program, Triggersreet.com,
have been accepted into the Tribeca festival. Maybe Bloomberg
will try that route next year.
HBO introduced
the new season of mega-hit Six Feet Under with a screening
of the first two episodes. The entire cast plus assorted Celebs
showed up for a sneak peak at the quirky funeral home family
drama. Fans of the wildly popular show can greet death weekly
beginning March 2.
